Yo!
You have been regular in submitting great designs, so you deserve this regular, metamucil-like blog! You might be interested in the new designer rankings just out for March 09 (published on our design jobs home page) and some improvements we've made recently to DesignBay marketplace!
Latest designer rankings
Congratulations to new entrants Top 10 designers Paul Curran from
PC Design, Naranbat Jargalsaikhan (possibly the greatest designer in Mongolia!) and Synco Creative Direction who have rocketed to #2 on the rankings! Well done to
Jace Design,
NiteOwl Designs and TheNetMenCorp for maintaining their Top 5 rankings.
A few designers have asked about how the rankings are determined. The following things are factors: earnings; recent earnings; recent number of submissions; positive vs negative ratings; and quality of designs (a subjective overlay). The rankings are not determined by a mathematical formula - much like DMOZ or the Yahoo Directory we determine position and entry into the rankings using an editorial approach. You can see the Top 10 graphic designers rankings here or view the full rankings in our graphic designer directory.
Also a shout out to some great up-and-coming designers on DesignBay including Alanna Pfeffer (a designer from Detroit), Blackbird designs from the US, Black Squirrel Design Studio from the US and Cherith Walsh a graphic designer connected with the Jitter Design House in Canada.
Improvements to DesignBay
We've made some updates to designer portfolio pages and My Profile pages:
- Email notifications - option to turn on / off emails about new design projects
- Portofolio changes
- Designs in open design contests are now hidden on your profiles - so other people can't copy. We do our best to protect designer rights - that's why we've done this, introduced base payments and is one of many reasons we offer the quoting system!
- All designer profiles are now visible. You can decide whether or not you display all your designs or just designs that have earnt money
- New products! You should start to see more diverse design contests - more stationery, business card and because we've just added / improved and begun advertising a bunch of new product pages for business card design, illustration and vector illustration, poster design, stationery design, brochure design and flyer design.
HI-TEC update
This was a particularly successful project - well done to all the designers who participated! Expecially well done to Jace Design who won the first design contest for this international brand as well as the second icon design contest! Also a special mention to Brett from Synco Creative Direction who won phase 3 and got a couple of 2nd places in the first two contests!
May Spring Break / Autumn inspire your designs this month.
