Alex Strange is a twenty-two year old
graphic illustrator from England.
When he's not showing Creative Suite who's boss, he enjoys playing guitar and watching shows like
Arrested Development.
We first met Alex a few months ago when he joined DesignCrowd and entered
special design contest we launched that invited new designers to submit a graphic that best depicted their own design aesthetic or style. Kinda like a mini advertisement for their services. Check out Alex's awesome design:

We wanted to find out more about our winning designer and invited Alex to share his creative process and here's what he has to say:
How do you usually start with your projects? Do you have a routine of sorts that you methodically go through?
Alex: I normally quickly read the brief and make notes to get an idea of what the project is about. Next I would look at an illustration book or search the Internet for inspiration on style, typography or just composition. If I’m really stuck on an idea, I’ll probably make a few mind maps then go for a walk and think in-depth about any of the issues.

How did your passion for illustration start?
Alex: I started my design career as a graphics student, who worked with all aspects of design. However when I was looking at universities I discovered illustration, and was blown away with the creative opportunities it presented.
How would you describe what you do to someone who hasn't seen your work yet?
Alex: I would like to describe my illustration style as vibrant, irregular & fun.

Is there a defining influence that made a huge impact on how you work? Who or what are the greatest influences on your creative style?
Alex: Once I bought myself one of those Wacom stylus pens for my iPad and found it easier to draw and flesh out my ideas, than solely using a computer. I feel the process of using my iPad meant I could work anywhere due to it’s portability.
In terms of artists, I admire Paul Blow and his clever editorial illustrations. I also like Jack Teagle and the comics he produces.

How did you find DesignCrowd?
Alex: I've used other sites to find design work, and found that I wasn't getting enough projects per week. I researched similar websites and decided to join DesignCrowd to find new projects.

Thanks for your time Alex and good luck in future DesignCrowd graphic design projects!
