Despite the recent economic downturn, start-up companies are still proving to be at the forefront of economic growth. There have been some fantastic success stories in 2010 especially from the following list of 50 (whether their logos are good or not). Start up business 99Dresses (From Sydney Australia), for instance, allows people to exchange clothing using a purely online currency. This business experienced some fantastic growth over 2010, having recently been invested in at a six figure evaluation, despite the economic downturn.
The following logos are gathered from the best Australian startups of 2010. As designers we can observe how these logos show the tone and trends represented by these companies.
Initially, when writing this article we selected a panel of people who had little to no design experience and asked them to rate the logos as "Good", "Bad" and "Ugly". The results were very interesting. (UPDATE: After getting some feedback from our design community of 25,000 designers - we decided to update this article and re-categorise the logos these based on designer opinions, and the list of logo designs below is what we came up with.)

The Good Logos
These are logos that were judged to be the most effective. There were many reasons why these were considered to be some of the best logos. Some of the things mentioned by the panel members included, strong visual consistency, neat and appropriate use of typography, excellent use of colour and a coherent style.

The panel judged these logos to be pretty average but okay. In comparison to the previous group of logos this one was deemed to be less effective and more rudimentary. Compare the groups and see what you think.
